How to Manage Notifications on iOS

Introduction

Notifications provide useful alerts to business changes in the app that may need attention, so we recommend keeping them turned on. Setting them up correctly is important, both to help you keep on top of the demands of the placing process, but also to ensure that confidential or sensitive information is not accidentally displayed in a public environment.

Please read the following guide, and get in touch if you need more information or hands-on help.

Turning on Notifications

Notifications can be turned on when the application is first installed.  However, the basic permission requested by iOS may not give you the right set-up. To check your notification configuration, select the Settings app, then search for "Whitespace".

The Settings app allows you to configure Siri & Search (not enabled in the platform at present), Notifications and Background App Refresh (always leave this enabled to ensure you receive up-to-date information). Select Notifications:

Notifications should be allowed. You have options for where notifications should be displayed. Typically we would set them to be visible on the Lock Screen, Notifications Center and in Banners while using other apps.

You can also set a banner style. Temporary banners fade from view after a few seconds, where as the name suggests, persistent banners remain visible until they are dismissed. This setting is a matter of personal preference.

You can opt to play a sound when a notification arrives, though it is important to note that this setting respects your current volume and Do Not Disturb" preference. Setting "Do Not Disturb" and "Bedtime" (iOS 12) avoids you being disturbed by the app out of hours.

IMPORTANT: When to show Previews

Notifications preview a small amount of information from the risk, and some information about the activity taking place. If you feel this may be sensitive, you should opt to show previews only when the device is unlocked. While locked, the notification shows as a summary but does not share any information about either the risk or the activity.
